Creating Web Documents on Omega

The Medical School encourages students to create web pages in their Omega accounts. These pages should be related to the student's academic work here and must fit along with your email in the allocated disk space of 45 Megabytes.

Textual information in web documents is written using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). These text-based html files, in addition to any image and sound files, are kept on a web server where they can be viewed by anyone with web browser software. Omega has been set up as a web server designated for Medical Center Student use.

Mounting web Documents on Omega

Once you have created your web page(s) using HTML, follow these steps to get it mounted in your Omega account.
  1. FTP to the host - "omega.med.yale.edu" and transfer your files to the public_html directory:
Note: The introductory page should be named index.html to prevent a user-unfriendly view of all your web files. This practice also allows your page to automatically be referenced on the Student Web Page Directory found at http://omega.med.yale.edu
  2. Once your files are transferred, anyone with a web browser can view them by using the URL:
    http://omega.med.yale.edu/~username/filename.ext
(Be sure to change 'username' and 'filename.ext' in the above example)
